The public media company PRX has reached outside the audio industry for its new Director of Audience Growth and Marketing. It has hired Rachel Poulos to join its marketing team with a focus on audience development. In her new role, Poulos will be responsible for audience growth components of podcasts distributed by PRX, including the Radiotopia podcast network. She will also expand and manage digital and multi-channel podcast marketing strategies, audience acquisition tactics, and show growth.
“Rachel is highly creative, an impressive digital marketing expert, and a lover of audio. We’re so pleased to welcome Rachel to our marketing team and organization as we support today’s leading podcasters,” said Donna Hardwick, Chief Marketing Officer at PRX in the announcement.
Poulos has an extensive digital media background – including some audio work. She most recently spent the past two years as a group account director at the digital agency Brainlabs. There, Poulos planned and launched digital campaigns to help drive awareness and listenership for a variety of clients, including NPR and podcasts and programming across news, culture, and entertainment, including It’s Been A Minute, The Indicator from Planet Money, Consider This, and Tiny Desk Concerts. Prior to that, she spent three years as an account manager at Hanapin Marketing. Previously, Poulosserved in marketing roles at a technology-driven consumer service company Progrexion and at SEO.com.
“I’m beyond thrilled to be part of an organization that serves independent producers,” said Poulos in a statement. “I’m also excited to collaborate with a great team at PRX with innovative digital strategies to connect people to new perspectives and hopefully their new favorite podcasts.”
The hiring of Poulos follows PRX’s recent hiring of Jon Peck as Senior Director of Broadcast and Podcast Marketing.
The Radiotopia podcast network features a lineup of independent creators, such as TED, GBH in Boston, and PRX Productions. At last count, PRX’s podcast platform reaches more than 64 million listeners per month while radio programs distributed by PRX reach more than 8.5 million listeners on a weekly basis.
